Lynton and Leahey break APC Sunday hoodoo

Beric Lynton and Tim Leahey have enjoyed a perfect weekend in the Australian Production Car Series’ (APC) visit to Queensland, backing up their Fight in the Night victory with another win on Sunday.
The duo have a stronghold over the competition when it comes to the popular Fight in the Night, claiming four wins from the past five years, but have failed to produce a victory the following day.
Despite Saturday night’s race being relatively drama free, the win didn’t come without a scare or two, with Grant and Iain Sherrin piling on pressure early on in the race.
The Sherrin’s charge was short lived though, with the brothers having to retire on the ninth lap due to electrical issues, leaving Lynton and Leahey to extend their lead.
Finishing almost one minute behind the leaders and the only other crew to finish the same amount of laps were Lindsay Kearns and Coleby Cowham in the Ford Mustang GT.
It was a solid effort from the duo, who started the race in P4 before eventually passing Anthony Soole and Andrew Fisher to finish the race in second place.
Starting from on the front row beside Lynton and Leahey, Soole and Fisher eventually rounded out the top three after enjoying battles with both the winners and runner-ups, even spending some time in first during the race.
On Sunday, the Sherrins once again piled on the pressure, only this time it was for the whole race - however a determined Lynton and Leahey held their position and finally claimed a Sunday victory after many attempts at the double.
It was a straight forward win for the pair, who effectively led from start to finish, except for 20 laps, when the timing of pit stops jumbled the outright order.
While Kearns and Cowham’s third place in the race earned them an outright runner-up finish for the weekend, the final step of the podium went to Chris Lillis and Nathan Callaghan after steering their Holden HSV VF R8 to two fourth places.
The Australian Production Car Series’ next round is once again with the Shannons Nationals at Sandown Raceway on 20 -22 September.
