The CAMS DEWALT SXS Australian Championship has officially reached its halfway point and after two thrilling rounds, the remaining half looks set to be just as exciting.

First up, the championship heads to Ballarat for the penultimate round and the big news story for the round is the return of off road superstar Toby Price. 

Price is no stranger to the championship after competing in two rounds last year and the New South Welshman proved quite the driver as well, claiming a round victory on his debut before steering his #87 CAN-AM to a runner-up finish in the 2018 season finale. 

The two-time Dakar Rally winner comes into the fold in interesting times for the championship, as there is only eight points separating the top four drivers in a season that has surprisingly had two completely different podiums. 

Remarkably, it’s a fairly new looking top four with the most experienced campaigner being Glen Ackroyd in third place – a position he shares with Polaris pilot Jackson Evans on 110 points. 

Another Grand Final appearance for Tim Liston in Canberra saw the round two-runner up continue his push to buck the trend and win the championship in a SXS Sport, as he currently occupies second place outright. 

However leading the championship is James Shipp in what could be symbolising the changing of the guards as the youngsters look to replace the veterans. A fourth place in Cessnock followed by his maiden round victory in Canberra sees Shipp leading the summit, as well as being on track for a historic title.

Of course, with a host of big names including Stephen Henry, reigning champion Simon Evans, 2016 runner-up Jarrod Keyte, 2019 Round 2 winner Ewan McClure and Price all set to compete later this month, the penultimate round could make or break the season for many of these drivers. 

With four rounds being run in 2019, Shipp could well and truly be in the box seat ahead of October’s final round but then again anything is possible in motor sport.
