6 Hour to break Bathurst record
Tuesday 25 February, 2020
The Hi-Tec Oils Bathurst 6 Hour already has 68 competitors entered in the event.
The Hi-Tec Oils Bathurst 6 Hour will break the record for the biggest field to race at the iconic Mount Panorama circuit when it takes place on Easter weekend.
In its first year running at a Shannons Motorsport Australia Championships round and under new promoter Australian Racing Group, the popular Easter enduro will have a minimum of 68 cars competing.
The race already holds the record for the largest field with 64 competing in the 2017 edition, while the previous record of 63 had been hit on three occasions before that.
And with the circuit able to hold a capacity of 72 cars and entries still open until 6 March, there is a chance the number could go even higher according to Australia Racing Group’s Ken Collier.
“We have been indicating that a massive grid was on the cards this year, so it’s great to confirm the enormous interest that the Hi-Tec Oils Bathurst 6 Hour has attracted this year,” Collier said.
“We are breaking new ground by having 68 cars committed to a single race just under two weeks out from the entry deadline.
“There are more competitors we are talking to who have indicated plans to compete which means the final four grid spots could fill up very quickly.”
Headlining the impressive line up will be Australian Touring Car legend Andrew Miedecke, John Bowe and current Supercars driver Anton de Pasquale, as well as reigning champion Beric Lynton and 2018 winners in Sherrin Racing,
The event will also see the Ford Mustang make its Mount Panorama Production Car debut with the popular brand looking to break BMW’s current domination over the event.
The main event will also have a solid set of support categories in action with the carsales TCR Australia Series, Radical Australia Cup and the Motorsport Australia GT Championship all part of the action packed weekend.
The Hi-Tec Oils Bathurst 6 Hour and Shannons Motorsport Australia Championships’ second round at Mount Panorama runs on 10-12 April.
