The Boost Mobile Race Tasmania has wrapped up with a bang, with Baskerville Raceway hosting the second and final event of the new series.
A number of national and state categories formed part of the event on the Apple Isle with the National Trans-Am Series headlining the meeting courtesy of its special Roadways Tasmanian Ten Thousand feature race.
With $10,000 on offer to the winner of the final race, the 16 competitors provided plenty of action throughout the category’s three races in the lead up to the main event, which took place on Sunday afternoon.
After falling just short of top honours at Symmons Plains last week, the number one seed in Aaron Seton had a lot to prove this time round and the Queenslander was on point early as he edged out Owen Kelly in qualifying and both of Saturday’s races.
Kelly managed to produce a great response on Sunday morning with his own win ahead of Brett Holdsworth and Seton, but when it came to the race that mattered, it was the series star who took control.
Having started the race from the front row, Seton never looked like losing his lead during the 25 lap race as he steered his Ford Mustang to a four second victory over Kelly, crossing the finish line $10,000 richer.
In third place was young gun Nathan Herne after the Dodge Challenger driver edged out Holdsworth by just six tenths of a second, while fellow Chev Camaro pilot Tim Shaw rounded out the top five.
“What an awesome day here at Baskerville,” Seton said post event.
“It was great racing between all of the guys and I really appreciate Owen and Nathan pushing me all weekend, as well as Brett Holdsworth.
“I’ve just loved being here, it’s my first time at Baskerville. It’s kind of a tight and technical track to get it right, but it’s very rewarding.
“I’m just a bit speechless. I can't thank all my partners enough. Fortunately we were able to win $10,000 with this event.
“(The prizemoney) will definitely go towards our budget for the season so yeah, looking forward to the rest of 2021.”
Also taking place on the weekend were invitational events for the Supercheap Auto TCR Australia series and Gulf Western Oil Touring Car Masters competitors, with a selection of big names from both categories featuring in the races which didn’t count towards their 2021 Series standings
For TCR, it was up and coming star Aaron Cameron who claimed top honours courtesy of his two race wins and being the only driver to finish every race on the podium, while series leader Jordan Cox and young gun Ben Bargwanna both got victories of their own.
The Touring Car Masters saw another tightly fought contest between two champs of the category as South Australian Adam Garwood picked up a clean sweep of wins over veteran John Bowe, who finished the opening race in third behind Greg Garwood.
There was another clean sweep of victories in the Improved Production cars as Jarrod House converted his pole position to four race wins and guided his Holden Torana to maximum points over a trio of BMW E30s driven by Phil House, Rye Dunsmuir and Glenn Kennedy.
Phillip Ashlin almost managed the perfect weekend of his own as he won all four Holden HQ races after qualifying in second place behind Andrew Toth, who finished behind the winner in each race.
The final category of the weekend saw Josh Webster and Ben Grice go toe-to-toe in the Hyundai Excels as Grice began the weekend with pole position and two wins.
Webster hit back on Sunday though as he took out top honours in the third and final race after the Victorian star suffered a setback in the final race and was unable to recover. In the battle for third, Callum Mitchell edged out Ryan Phillips thanks to three podiums.
