With the popular production car race last run in 2019, this year’s edition looks certain to make history with organisers confident of breaking the current 64-car record.

 

On top of the 51 cars locked in for the Easter holiday race, a further 12 are currently in the process of completing the entry process ahead of the early March deadline, as well as plenty of drivers and teams expressing interest in the event.

 

Headlining the list of drivers already confirmed are 2019 race winners Beric Lynton and Tim Leahey in the BMW M3 and 2018 winners Grant and Iain Sherrin in the BMW M4 with both crews likely to be towards the front of the field throughout the race.

 

As for the cars, 12 different brands and more than 20 different models will be represented in the six hour race, including four of the recently approved Ford Mustangs, with at least one car entered into every class available.

 

While the 6 Hour will be the main event for the weekend, the event also doubles as a round of the Shannons Motorsport Australia Championships.

 

Making up the national support categories will be the Supercheap Auto TCR Australia Series, the Motorsport Australia GT Championship, the National Trans Am Series and the Radical Australia Cup.

 

There will also be state level representation too with the MRF Bathurst Excel Challenge and the New South Wales Historic Touring Cars rounded out what will be an action packed weekend of motorsport.

 

Event Director Ken Collier was pleased with the amount of positive interest for the event following on from the disappointing outcome of last year’s cancellation.

 

“The reaction from the competitors to the 2021 Hi-Tec Oils Bathurst 6 Hour has been outstanding,” Collier said.

 

“Twenty-five entrants rolled over their existing entry towards the 2021 race the moment it was confirmed that 2020 would not go ahead, while another large group of existing entrants have already re-entered or confirmed that they will be back on the grid alongside several new entrants.  

 

“That level of support for the event despite the challenges of the last twelve months has been incredible and has helped us to push the race forward to a new level.  

 

“We have also seen new teams, drivers and vehicles being prepared for their debut this year which shows how important and significant this race is for the Production Car community.  

 

“We are confident that both the size and also the quality of the 2021 grid will be the best the Bathurst 6 Hour has ever seen and, coupled with a huge on-track program that includes TCR Australia, GT and Trans Am, will make this a weekend to remember at Mount Panorama.”

The 2021 Hi-Tec Oils Bathurst 6 Hour and Shannons Motorsport Australia Championships second round takes place at Mount Panorama on 2-4 April.
