The Motorsport Australia Queensland State Circuit Championships is the latest statewide competition to get its season underway this weekend.
 
More than 170 entrants will do battle across the three-day race meeting at Morgan Park Raceway with a large pool of categories to keep attending fans entertained.
 
Making up the event’s cast of categories are many of the regular series and championships, including the ever-popular Hyundai Excel X3 series and Improved Production.
 
Both categories once again boast the largest entry lists with the Excels to welcome a huge field of more than 40 cars, including Brayden Cidoni, who will be steering the Racing Together prepared Excel for the second-year running. 


As for Improved Production, there will be 23 cars contesting the season opening round and with neither 2021 outright champion Zac Hudson and under 2000cc Champion Richard Troon competing, it is an open playing field for who could win.
 
While he won’t be competing in the Improved Production this year, Hudson will still be attending in the race meeting, only this time he has switched his RX7 for the might of a Ford Mustang in Group NC.
 
Up against a talented field of 13 other drivers, Hudson was relishing the opportunity for a new challenge.
 
“I am pretty excited for this weekend. A new class, new car and new people I get to race against which should be great and I am really looking forward to it,” Hudson said.
 
“Basically we made the decision to park the Mazda RX7 year for the state championship in order to prepare fully for the national meeting happening later in the year. 


“We’re wanting to save some money to build more on the RX7, which we couldn’t do if we ran in the Queensland series. Of course, we will do a round in the lead up, but my focus is the national event. 
 
“When the opportunity came up to drive the Mustang, I jumped at it because who wouldn’t want to drive a Mustang? We practiced in it last Friday and it was so awesome, so I am excited to try something different.
 
“I will do a few more rounds in the Mustang to keep myself sharp. Even though I have done bitumen my whole life, it doesn’t hurt to get more seat time. 
 
“As for the first meeting for the year, there is a great energy here and the pits were quite full when we arrived. It’s a great atmosphere and everyone wants to just get racing so it should be a good weekend.”

Other categories to be on show throughout the weekend include HQ Holdens, Formula Ford and Vee, 3E Series Production Cars, Production Sports Cars, Marque Sports Cars, Saloon Cars, Sports Sedans and Supersports.
