S5000 Australian Drivers Championship

The opening outing of Sunday’s action saw reigning S5000 Australian Drivers' Champion Joey Mawson win the weekend’s feature race. 
 
Despite having a disappointing run in last night’s reverse grid race, Mawson enjoyed a flawless run during the category’s nine laps on Sunday morning – having led from lights out to the chequered flag.
 
The victory was the New South Welshman’s second for the round, the first being after an epic battle against Aaron Cameron on Friday with just half a second separating the duo.
 
This morning, it was a far different affair as Mawson comfortably led the field all race and crossed the finish line five and half seconds ahead of Nathan Herne in second.
 
Herne himself was locked in a tight battle for the runner-up placing, beating Tim Macrow by just seven tenths of a second, while Cameron took out fourth place just half a second faster than James Golding.
 
With the Alan Jones Trophy awarded to the winner of the round, Mawson ended up with a decent lead in the point score, trumping Herne by 16 points; Macrow’s third place in the main event seeing him leapfrog Cameron for third.

Porsche Paynter Dixon Carrera Cup Championship

Max Vidau claimed top honours for the outright round at Albert Park despite not winning a race with Aaron Love having a race to forget as he crossed the finish line last.
 
Having enjoyed a perfect lead up to the finale, Love started from pole and would have fancied his chances for a clean sweep, however David Wall and Harri Jones passed the leader on the first lap – the latter charging from third to first.
 
It goes worse for Love a few laps later as he dropped down the order after an incident with Luke Youlden, while Jones led Wall to the finish line in the battle for the win. 
 
With Vidau slotting into third and staying there for the remainder of the race, the South Australian claimed the outright round win over David Wall – Wall’s second place in te race four not enough to get him overall honours.
 
Love ended the weekend in third – just seven points separating the West Australian with Vidau.
 
In the Pro-Am class, Geoff Emery ended up taking out the round win despite finishing fourth as he had enough points in the bank thanks to earlier results.
 
Sam Shahin ended up winning the class in the final race of the weekend, beating Stephen Grove and Liam Talbot but still felt short to Emery by 14 points.

Repco Supercars Championship

An incredible climax to the last race of the Beaurepaires Melbourne 400 as Chaz Mostert won his second race of the weekend, while Shane van Gisbergen stumbled to 20th.
 
Having started in P3 behind the two Dick Johnson Racing Ford Mustangs, Mostert eventually made his way to the lead by lap 15 after a good pit stop strategy and some solid driving.
 
Shane van Gisbergen battled hard and made some great moves to slot into second place, but on the penultimate lap his tyre blew and he was forced to the pits.
 
The Kiwi’s exit allowed Will Davidson to slot into second place while Anton De Pasquale enjoyed his first podium of the weekend to wrap up what has been a difficult weekend for him.
 
Despite his P20, van Gisbergen still claimed the most points from the round and won the Larry Perkins Trophy as a result, Mostert finishing second 17 points behind.
 
As for the outright championship standings, van Gisbergen stretched his lead out to 144 points over De Pasquale, while Mostert sits in third.
