Bathurst field set for 2022

Wednesday 05 October, 2022
Privateer Matt Chahda and Jaylyn Robotham are one of three wildcard entries this weekend.
The Repco Bathurst 1000 has officially arrived and it's a star-studded line-up for the 2022 edition of the famous Mount Panorama race.

Outside of the regular drivers for the event, seven-time Repco Bathurst 1000 winner Craig Lowndes highlights the new additions ready to tackle the great race.

Lowndes will race for Triple Eight Race Engineering as a wildcard entrant alongside co-driver Declan Fraser and will be attempting to claim his eighth victory at the mountain - a record only bettered by the legendary Peter Brock.

Lowndes and Fraser won't be the only wildcard entrants in this year’s race with New Zealand driver Richie Stanaway to joined by countryman Greg Murphy, joining Erebus Motorsport, while Dunlop Super2 Series driver Matt Chahda enters the event as the only privateer entry and will have Jaylyn Robotham sharing duties.

Two-time winner Chaz Mostert will return for another shot at taking out the biggest race of the calendar year and with last year's teammate Lee Holdsworth occupied with his own full-time season, Mostert has secured the services of former DJR star, Fabian Coulthard.

Despite Mostert and Coulthard being a strong partnership, 2020 winner and current championship leader Shane van Gisbergen will enter the event as favourite and will have the experienced Garth Tander.

The Triple Eight Racing stable will also be boosted with seven-time champion Jamie Whincup to have co-driver duties with Broc Feeney.

Whincup isn't the only co-driver entered who was on the Supercars list in 2021, with Zane Goddard to join James Courtney for the race.

International GT stars Jaxon Evans and Matt Campbell are one of many notable co-drivers- the former partnering up with Jack Smith, while Campbell will be teaming up with a previous winner in David Reynolds.

Other high profile co-drivers include Tony D'Alberto, who remains with Dick Johnson Racing, former Supercars driver Michael Caruso, who will be racing with Mark Winterbottom, Jack Perkins, who will be alongside Will Brown, Dylan O'Keefe with James Golding and Warren Luff, who will drive with Nick Percat.

Brodie Kostecki will return to the mountain with high expectations after his first stint as a primary driver in 2021, he will be alongside David Russell as part of the Boost Mobile Racing powered by Erebus team.

Championship contender Cameron Waters will also be part of Tickford racing team, looking to close to gap to van Gisbergen while also holding off fellow contenders in Davison and Anton de Pasquale.

The 2022 Bathurst 1000 will take place at 11:00am AEDT on Sunday 9 October.
