Western Australian Off Road Racing Championship (WAORC) crews will battle it out for “King of the River” honours this weekend as the second round of the 2023 season makes its way north of Perth for the Coral Coast Helicopter Services Kickstarter’s Gascoyne Dash.

Often compared with the famous Tatts Finke Desert Race, the event will see crews compete to top the timesheets through multiple runs where their four fastest times will count towards championship points.

The popular event consists of over 400 kilometres of competitive racing on a course that ventures between Carnarvon and Gascoyne Junction, which is approximately 900 kilometres north of Perth.

Like Finke, there will be two sections across the weekend with the first compromising of a single point by point section from Gascoyne Junction through to Carnarvon, then section two will act as the return leg with the same three fuel stops and checkpoints available.

Prologue will take place on Friday afternoon, where competitors will take on 14km of track in respective seeding order.

Off Road fans have plenty of storylines and rivalries to keep an eye on during the event, as Adam Trewhella and Koby Grant will be looking to replicate their opening round performance after dominating the field in Perenjori, where the finished 17 seconds ahead of their nearest rivals in Robert Sobczyk and Brin Ketteridge.

Sobczyk and Ketteridge finished outright second but were able to take honours in the Prolite class – something they will be looking to replicate while going one better in the outright class.

The SXS Pro class will also be back in action with Paul Delacy and Jay Constantini returning after topping the timesheets in the opening round and finishing fourth outright.

Another class to keep an eye out for is Extreme 4WD, as Peer and Oliver Horn were able to beat Mathew Beck and Brent Studman last time out in a nailbiter, setting up yet another battle for the top spot in the class.

Adding to the event is the variety of vehicles in action with buggies, trophy trucks, SXS buggies, motorbikes and quads all featuring in a bumper entry list, providing lots of on track entertainment for all those in attendance.

There are free camping zones for spectators available at the Gascoyne Junction Town oval, where there will be access to ample toilets, showers and food and bar access operating out of the Junction Hotel and Tourist Park.

Following on from the three big days of racing, fans can stick around for the presentations at the conclusion of Sunday's action.

The Coast Helicopter Services Kickstarter’s Gascoyne Dash will take place between Carnarvon and Gascoyne Junction on 27-30 April.
