A chaotic second round of the Battery World Aussie Racing Cars Super Series took place over the weekend, with series leaders and a pair of rookies impressive throughout the four races. 
 
After claiming pole position on Friday, series leader Joel Heinrich continued his unbeaten start to the season after holding off title challenger Josh Anderson and Kody Garland in the opening race.
 
Garland was able to take the race lead early on before eventually dropping behind Heinrich not long after. He was then unable to sustain pressure on the race leader as the reigning champion in Anderson was hot on his tail. 
 
Heinrich stayed composed and took victory by just over four seconds ahead of his nearest series competitor in Anderson, while Garland had to settle for third. 
 
Despite the perfect start to the weekend, Heinrich was unable to continue his winning streak as race two offered up a thriller. 


Rookie driver Brandon Madden found himself in the lead in his Riskie Racing/Harvey’s Towing Chevrolet Camaro ahead of both championship leaders as they fought right down to the final straight.
 
Madden then picked up his first series victory of the season, just one-tenth of a second ahead of Heinrich, who also only finished a further two-tenths ahead of Anderson in third – the race going down as one of the closest in its history. 
 
The third race of the weekend proved just as chaotic, as a reverse-grid format caused three separate incidents on the first lap and an early safety car intervention. 
 
The chaos allowed Reece Chapman to navigate his way through the carnage to take the lead of the race mere seconds before the safety car was called out. 
 
To the pleasure of the leader, the race was then shortened to only eight laps due to the prolonged safety car interventions, meaning Chapman was able to hold onto the lead and take victory in race three ahead of Garland and Kyle Ensbey. 


The final race of the weekend saw another rookie, Rylan Gray stand tall above the rest and close the gap in the race for the title. 
 
Garland led the way early while Anderson and Madden fought hard in second and third place respectively. Heinrich made his way through to fourth place but was also being followed by both Gray and Kent Quinn. 
 
Garland was unable to maintain position as he found himself right back down in sixth place, while a fight for the lead saw Gray claim the upper hand in the late stages, before extending his lead to a healthy three seconds. 
 
An entertaining last lap battle between Garland, Anderson and Heinrich summed up what was already a chaotic weekend of action - the trio fighting hard for the final places on the podium before Garland was hit in the rear by Quinn, forcing them both into the gravel trap. 
 
Gray ultimately took victory by more than five seconds while Heinrich did enough to claim second over rival Anderson. 
 
Matt Gooding dominated in the Gold Cup throughout, but the returning James Ward was still able to claim class victory in race three, while Kent Quinn was a class above the rest in the Masters Cup. 
 
Madden and Gray alternated Rookie Cup honours across the weekend, with a special mention to Nathan Williams as he compiled some great results in the class along the way.
 
The Battery World Aussie Racing Cars Super Series will next join the Repco Supercars Championship at the Tasmanian SuperSprint on 19-21 May.
