24 Hours of Le Mans
James Allen has enjoyed a remarkable weekend at the famous Le Mans circuit, winning the Pro-Am LMP2 class of the iconic 24 Hours of Le Mans.
A huge field of 65 cars were entered in the 100th edition of the famous endurance race, eight of which were registered as LMP2 Pro Am cars.
Behind the wheel of the Algarve Pro Racing prepared Oreca 07-Gibson, Allen and American teammates George Kurtz and Colin Braun were in fine form throughout the 24 hour race, as they dominated the class for most of the weekend.
Having qualified 24th overall and second in the LMP2 Pro-Am class, the Algarve Pro Racing trio used the first half of the race to get themselves in contention for the lead, with Allen leading the charge.
The trio would eventually grab the lead late into the night after a DNF of the class front runners.
From that point onwards, each driver put in solid stints behind the wheel and have a trouble free run as they secured the class victory.
Completing 322 laps overall, the trio eventually finished five laps ahead of the next best class crew, while also securing a top 20 outright place and 10th in the LMP2 class overall.
Taking out the overall victory of the iconic race was Ferrari AF Corse’s Alessandro Pier Guidi, James Calado and Antonio Giovinazzi in the Ferrari 499P after coming out on top of an intense, yet highly entertaining battle with Toyota Gazoo Racing’s Sebastien Buemi, Brendon Hartley and Ryo Hirakawa.
Porsche Carrera Cup Deutschland
Harri Jones has had a mixed weekend in the Porsche Carrera Cup Deutschland’s latest round at the Hockenheimring.
The Queenslander had a decent qualifying session to secure a top 10 spot for the opening race, but unfortunately it was an outing to forget despite a strong start where the talented steerer made up two places early and held onto P8 for a large portion of the race.
As other drivers struggled throughout the race, causing multiple safety car interventions, Jones just couldn't get the most out of the restarts and untimely lost those two places back. His day went from bad to worse when he was handed a drive-through penalty, demoting him to 25th.
Jones would bounce back in style the following day as he started from sixth and finished in the same position.
Like the opening race, the 2022 Porsche Carrera Cup Australia winner made two brilliant passes to slot into fourth, but dropped back down to sixth, where he stayed for the rest of the race.
While he missed out on an outright podium, Jones enjoyed a rookie podium to end the weekend on a high.
The next round of the Porsche Carrera Cup Deutschland will be the Circuit Zandvoort in the Netherlands on 23–25 June, before returning to the Porsche Mobile 1 Supercup at the Red Bull Ring on the following weekend.
