Polaris Motorsport Australia Off Road Championship (AORC) regular Simon Tucker has claimed a thrilling victory in the Mino Pave 250 on the weekend, beating a strong field of 28 crews.
With daughter Lucy Tucker in the navigator seat, their consistency saw the father-daughter duo secure a 25 second victory in the third round of the Motorsport Australia South Australian Off Road Championship over Daryl Nissen and Andrew Harness after 12 laps of the 20 kilometre off road course.
Rounding out the top three were Andrew and Teagan Mowles, who despite winning the first section, finished almost two minutes off the leading Prolite buggy of the Tuckers.
The top three crews were the contenders for the whole event, as they set the fastest times in all three sections, with Mowles getting off to the strongest start courtesy of his victory.
Just one lap made up that section, with Mowles going 10 seconds faster than Tucker, while Nissen finished the section five seconds slower than the runner-up.
The most significant moment in the event would occur in the weekend's second section, made up of six laps, allowing Tucker to claim the biggest victory of the event with a 23-second buffer separating he and Nissen.
The moment came on the final lap of the event where Mowles had a slight issue and posted the fourth slowest lap time out of the fields, eventually recording a time almost two minutes slower than Tucker.
Fortunately for the Northern Territorian, he had gone faster than Tucker on the section’s first four laps, which limited the amount of damage from the section, but still left him with plenty of work to do.
And although Mowles went fastest on the opening lap of the third and final section, he couldn’t catch up to the top two crews as Tucker and Nissen exchanged outright fastest-lap times - the latter eventually picking up the section win by just three seconds.
Nissen’s section win only slightly reduced the deficit to Tucker though, as the latter was a highly deserving winner of the event.
With all three podium-getters behind the wheel of Prolite buggies, the highest ranked non-Prolite crew were the fourth placed Adam Bierl and Nyree Burminghamm, who also came away with the Pro Buggy class win.
The Pro Buggy winners finished comfortably ahead of the fifth placed Rich and Lauren Andrews, who placed fourth in the Prolite class – marking a dominant day for the class.
Behind the Andrews were a pair of other class winners, including the sixth placed Brad Geraghty and Warne Kirley who took out at the Super 1650 class and SXS Pro class winners Tom Hicks and Lachy Rochfort in seventh.
Other class winners included the ninth placed Gavin Chant and Ian Langford, who won the Sportslite class, Andy Maxwell, Makayla Maxwell and Chris Pickert in the Performance 2WD class and Extreme 4WD winners Aaron and Breanna Harre.
