The new Shepparton District Car Club facility.
The Shepparton District Car Club (SDCC) has officially opened its brand-new facility at the Mooroopna Autocross Track, with club volunteers hoping it will open the door to more members.

With the help of grants received from the State Government and the Greater Shepperton Council, the club was able to build a Centre of Operations Building and Toilet Facility.

The project cost more than $120,000 to complete, with the club using the funding received via grants from both the State and Local government – the club was originally rejected before the local MP stepped in to help get the funding over the line.

In addition to the new facilities, the club was also able use its own funds to upgrade its recovery vehicle.

Unveiled at its Interclub Come & Try Day with the Swan Hill Sporting Car Club, the new facilities were a hit with club members, leaving club treasurer Greg Jaeschke hopeful of a swift recovery.

“It’s fantastic that we were able to get the funding over the line – had we not, then we definitely would have been able to get the project done,” Jaeschke said.

“To have a facility like this now is extremely important for our club because it will make it a new family-friendly facility - having a shed you can bring families along to will make our events far more inclusive.

“I think it will take us to a new level and improve our ability to get new members interested in motorsport. We took a big hit during COVID, and I am hopeful we can get that number back up.

“A big thanks to all the members who volunteered their time to help get the facilities in working order because every little bit helps, as well as the contractors who help build it.”

The club will now look at continuing its renovations, with further works to incorporate a Café and Dining Area, Timing Facility, First Aid Facility and Spectator Viewing area.

The club has just one more event for the year to showcase the Mooroopna Autocross Track renovations with a khanacross on 26 November.
