The Pakenham Auto Club (PAC) has held its second khanacross event for the year over the weekend, with 32 cars tackling its alternate long circuit.

Taking out the victory was Max Christensen, with the second-generation racer guiding his family’s Subaru Liberty to a nine second victory.

Despite coming away with what looked like a comfortable victory, it was anything but, as Christensen was locked in a tight battle with Roger Shaw for much of the day.

Behind the wheel of his khanacross special, Shaw looked in control and on track to take the win, claiming the fastest time in the opening four runs before a driveshaft issue in the final run derailed his progress.

Moving up into second place was round one runner-up Trevor Douglas in his Toyota GR Yaris, while Peugeot 306 pilot Richard Allen rounded out the podium.

Making up the top five was Ford Fiesta XR4 driver Anthony Franks and Stuart Reid in his Holden Astra SRI.

Other notable results saw the sixth placed Billy Douglas claim the junior win out of a field of 10 entrants, and Nicole Challis as the fastest of seven women entered in the khanacross.

Clerk of Course Anthony Kealy was pleased the club was able to attract another big field for the second consecutive month.

“It was fantastic to see so many people here this weekend; we’re truly carrying some momentum into a busy part of the season,” Kealy said.

“Compared to the same point of last year, entries are up 270 per cent, and with the weather continuing to play ball, we should be in great stead as we transition to the motorkhana portion of the calendar later in May.

“The presentation of the grounds is truly a credit to the hardworking army who continue to toil behind the scenes to make constant improvements to the facility.

“A special thanks also has to go out to our volunteers who assisted with the running of the day, everything went very smoothly for us to get six competition runs in.”

The Pakenham Auto Club’s next khanacross event will be on 7 April.
