Jack Doohan will become the latest Australian to secure a Formula 1 seat, Alpine today announcing the reserve driver’s elevation to complete their 2025 line-up.
The 21-year-old Queenslander has been part of the French team’s dedicated academy since 2022, culminating in his berth as reserve driver this season.
Doohan first made a name for himself in single-seaters competing in the F4 British Championship and the Euroformula Open Champion.
From then on Doohan progressed quickly through the ranks, claiming four victories and seven podiums in his second season of the FIA Formula 3 Championship in 2021 to finish the season in second.
After his impressive F3 showing with Trident, Doohan then progressed to the FIA Formula 2 Championship where he spent two years building his experience.
Doohan’s 2023 campaign culminated in a third-place championship finish with three race wins, enough to persuade Alpine to lock away the young talent as their reserve driver in 2024.
Appearing in six practice sessions over 2022 and 2023, Alpine wasted no time in building up Doohan’s mileage in Formula 1 machinery – making him an attractive candidate for the 2025 vacant seat alongside future teammate, Pierre Gasly.
Motorsport Australia CEO Sunil Vohra congratulated Doohan on his Formula 1 elevation.
“On behalf of everyone at Motorsport Australia, we’re thrilled for Jack, his family, and the team at Alpine on their confirmed 2025 driver line-up,” Vohra said.
“It is incredible to see yet another young Australian driver get their opportunity at the highest level of motorsport and we can’t wait to see what Jack can achieve with this opportunity.
“Jack’s rise through the ranks is testament to his talent and the development opportunities he has had both domestically and abroad. His pathway to Formula 1 should serve as an inspiration to all young Aussie drivers with aspirations of competing at the highest level.”
