It was a busy weekend for Australians competing on the international stage with a variety of championships and series well into their seasons.

With just two rounds to go in the FIA Formula 3 Championship 2020 season, Oscar Piastri finds himself just seven points behind Prema teammate Logan Sargeant on the overall standings.
 

 

During the weekend’s Belgian Grand Prix round, Piastri took back the championship lead after finishing fifth in the first race ahead of the eighth placed Sargeant, however in the reverse grid race, the USA driver ended up taking out the win over
Piastri who was demoted to sixth place as a result of a time penalty.

 

The second race of the weekend proved challenging for all four Australian drivers as Alex Peroni finished 21st, Calan Williams finished 25th and Jack Doohan retired from the race.

 

In Saturday’s race, Doohan had picked up his best result of the season with 12th, two places ahead of Peroni, but unfortunately couldn’t back it up on Sunday after getting a puncture.

Also running at Spa was the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup where Jordan Love missed out on an opportunity to gain some vital points. Qualifying well in 10th place. Love had a tough  outing and dropped a few places before eventually finishing the race in 12th.

 

Both the FIA Formula 3 Championship and Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup will be running at the Italian Grand Prix in Monza this weekend.
 

In the BRDC British Formula 3 Championship, Bart Horsten managed to pick up a nice haul of points during the championship’s four races at Brands Hatch.

It was a tough start for Horsten with the West Australian placing 13th in the opening race before getting his chance for a podium in the reverse grid race. And with a strong drive, he secured the podium with a third outright.

 

Horsten never dropped out of the top 10 after that with the 18-year-old finishing seventh in the remaining two races and earning a place inside the top 10 in the outright standings.

 

The BRDC British Formula 3 Championship now has just shy of three weeks off before heading to Donington Park on 19-20 September.
 

Christian Mansell had a mixed weekend in the F4 British Championship’s round at Knockhill Racing Circuit with contrasting results in each race.

The youngster started the Scottish round strong, placing outright sixth before he was forced to retire in the second race, causing him to lose ground to Brazilian Roberto Faria.

Despite a tough outing, Mansell remains on top of the rookie class after Fredrick Lubin failed to capitalise on his DNF.

Like British F3, the F4 British Championship will have two weekends off until the next round at Thruxton Circuit on 19-20 September.

Another driver to have a mixed weekend behind the wheel was Queenslander Will Power in the NTT IndyCar Series.

The United States based series had the two-race Bommarito Automotive Group 500 at World Wide Technology Raceway in Illinois and Power played a major role in both.

Power looked to be in contention for a victory in Saturday’s race after securing pole position, however it all went downhill fast and he eventually crossed the finish line in 12th.

He rebounded nicely in the second race and secured a much-needed podium. However like the first race he was in the lead at multiple points but was unable to hold onto it, eventually settling for third place.

Power now has a full month to prepare for his next race at the Harvest Auto Racing Classic on 2-3 October
