Aussies owning the international spotlight

World Endurance Championship – 24 Hour of Le Mans

Australian star Matt Campbell and teammates Kevin Estre and Laurens Vanthoor achieved an incredible result at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, securing second with a time of 3:31.068.

Campbell is the first Aussie outright Le Mans podium finisher since 2022, with less than 10 Australians have achieved an outright Le Mans podium finish.

Porsche Penske Motorsport started the race from 21st, with the trio fighting their way up to second and just missing the win by 14 seconds.

However, Campbell and the rest of the team produced a weekend with no mistakes or penalties, delivering a flawless race with hopes to come back even stronger in future endurance battles.

Australian father and son duo, Stephen and Brenton Grove, also raced in this challenging endurance race.

The Grove duo alongside teammate Luca Stolz successfully finished the intense race and crossed the finish line in 48th.

LMGT3 driver Yasser Shahin and The Bend Team WRT also competed, starting the race in 33rd.

Unfortunately, Shahin and his teammates managed to complete 168 laps, with the team retiring early.

All Australian drivers have proven an amazing performance, with the next World Endurance Championship race taking place on 13 July for the Rolex 6 Hours of Sao Paulo.

Le Mans Cup – Road to Le Mans

Griffin Peebles took on the Le Mans track for the third round of the 2025 Le Mans Cup.

Peebles and teammate Valerio Rinicella showed strong pace in the first Qualifying, placing their Duqueine D09 – Toyota in 10th.

The first race was unfortunate for Peebles and Rinicella, with car issues resulting in a DNF.

However, the duo bounced back in Qualifying Two, securing 14th which they converted into a eighth place finish, with a time of 1:01:30.535.

The next round of the 2025 Le Mans Cup heads to Spa-Francorchamps on 22-23 August.

Formula 1 – Montreal

The 2025 Formula One World Championship headed to Montreal last weekend, with Oscar Piastri continuing to extend his Championship lead.

The Aussie secured third in Qualifying with a time of 1:11.120, starting the race behind Max Verstappen.

Sunday proved a challenge, with Piastri and teammate Lando Norris battling for fourth towards the end of the race.

Norris placed pressure of Piastri, trying to get past and before colliding with Piastri’s rear, resulting in a DNF for Norris. However, Piastri was able to maintain his position, finishing the race in fourth.

With 12 points collected from this race, Piastri remains the Championship leader, 22 points ahead of Norris.

The next round of the 2025 Formula One World Championship takes place on 27-30 June for the Austrian Grand Prix.

F1 Academy – Montreal

The F1 Academy has wrapped in Montreal, with Australians Joanne Ciconte and Aiva Anagnostiadis putting in a great effort throughout the race weekend.

Ciconte pushed through a tough weekend, with Race One and Race Two ending early due to unlucky racing incidents.

However, Ciconte improved in the last race, staying focused and fighting back to finish within the points in ninth.

Anagnostiadis delivered a superb performance, bouncing back from a tough Qualifying session. She started Race One in 16th and was able to move up to eighth, earning double points.

The young star continued this strength, improving her pace in Race Two and securing 14th.

Unfortunately, Race Three wasn’t so lucky for Anagnostiadis, retiring on the opening lap due to contact with Mathilda Paatz.

Round 5 of the 2025 F1 Academy heads to Zandvoort on 29-31 August.

IndyNXT – Illinois

Australian driver Tommy Smith showcased a great performance at Round Six of the 2025 Firestone IndyNXT Series.

Smith qualified in 18th, starting the race behind HMD Motorsports teammate Davey Hamilton Jr.

Sunday presented a steady race, with Smith maintaining his position before gaining a position, crossing the finish line in 17th.

The next round of the 2025 IndyNXT Series is set for 22 June for the Grand Prix At Road America in Elkhart, Wisconsin.

IMSA Ford Mustang Challenge – Le Mans

Australian driver Cameron McLeod takes home two podiums at the Mustang Challenge Le Mans Invitational.

McLeod’s spectacular weekend was supported by the Aussie securing pole for both races.

The first race proved successful, with McLeod maintaining his lead throughout the race and claiming victory for the Dark Horse Class.

Race Two saw the Aussie build a lead before dropping to third. However, in the last lap, McLoed made his way back to first, winning the race ahead of Paley Motorsport’s Sam Paley.

The next round of the IMSA Ford Mustang Challenge is Road America, taking place on 1-3 August.
