The coveted Repco Bathurst 1000 is back, as the Repco Supercars Championship heads to Bathurst for the 65th running of ‘The Great Race’.

Practice got underway on Thursday for teams and competitors in all participating categories with spectators passing through the gates to watch the motorsport action begin this weekend.

Four-time Bathurst 1000 winner Jamie Whincup figures to be among one the favourites this year, partnering with championship leader Broc Feeney who has already scored 12 race wins in 2025.

Chaz Mostert will be in search of his third Great Race win, and reunites with Kiwi Fabian Coulthard this year to take care of unfinished business after finishing runners-up when they last drove together in 2022.

Generational great Craig Lowndes makes his 32nd Bathurst 1000 start this year, pairing with 21-year old Zach Bates in what will be his Bathurst 1000 debut and also Lowndes’ final start for Triple Eight Race Engineering.

Brodie Kostecki and Todd Hazelwood enter the week as not only the reigning Bathurst 1000 winners, but also the most recent winners on the Repco Supercars Championship calendar.

Perth-born Kostecki and Adelaide-native Hazelwood kicked off the 2025 enduros with a win in the 500-kilometre race at The Bend Motorsport Park last month, making them the form pairing heading into this weekend’s race.

“It’s great to have some momentum on our side for everyone at Shell V-Power Racing, and to be partnering up with Todd again is going to be fantastic going into Bathurst as the reigning champions,” Kostecki said.

“Very excited about the next few weeks ahead and with some momentum behind as well, I’m looking forward to heading to the mountain again.”

Both drivers left Erebus Motorsport to Dick Johnson Racing this year, and a win on Sunday would make the pair the first driver pairing ever to win back-to-back Bathurst 1000s for a different team and marque.

Following the Bathurst 1000, the Ryco Enduro Cup will be awarded to the driver who accumulated the most overall combined points from both the The Bend 500 and the Bathurst 1000 races.

On-track action at Mount Panorama began Thursday with practice, with the highly-anticipated 1000-kilometre race beginning at 11:45am AEDT on Sunday.
