Neilsons on the hunt for RAC silverware

Brad Neilson believes he and his son Mitch are in a good position at the midway point of the Radical Australia Cup season.
Mitch and Brad Neilson will be hunting for some big results at this weekend’s Shannons Nationals as the father-son team search for their maiden Radical Australia Cup title.
After two rounds, the pair currently sit second in the standings and trail only 2017 champion Peter Paddon thanks to a solid round one victory earlier this year.
With the series reaching its midway point at Sydney Motorsport Park, Brad Neilson is confident he and his son can contest not just the round, but the title.
“We give ourselves a good chance this weekend and we will be doing the best we can,” Neilson said.
“However with Chris Perini and Paddon charging up the top end of the grid, as well as Kosta Phorukov, there are a lot of competitors who could grab a crucial win,  so we are not getting ahead of ourselves.
“Last year, our aim was just to be consistent, whereas this year we are going to go faster and harder and go for it. Mitch is really quick so I think the wins will come.

“If Mitch does what he needs to and I don’t have any incidents in the car, then I believe we will be in with a really good chance to notch up some wins.”

The duo have been in fine form in recent times and finished 2018 in third outright behind Perini and eventual champion Kim Burke.
Despite Paddon claiming the category’s first visit to Sydney Motorsport Park this year, Neilson is just looking forward to racing at the Nationals in what is certainly going to be popular event due to TCR Australia’s inaugural round.
“I think it’s going to be a really great weekend, especially with the TCR Australia guys there for the first ever round” Neilson added.
“We have a really big grid this weekend, the Prototypes have a few races, there is a lot of buzz in the air, so it’s just going to be really great. I am looking forward to it.”
The RAC will have qualifying session on Saturday morning before the first race later in the afternoon. The second and final race of the weekend will take place on Sunday morning.
