The carsales TCR Australia Series will be on the world stage next year as part of the Formula 1 Rolex Australian Grand Prix 2020.
The carsales TCR Australia Series will make its debut on the international stage next year after being named as a Formula 1 Rolex Australian Grand Prix 2020 support category.
Launched at Sydney Motorsport Park in November last year, the series has been making big strides in 2019, with three entertaining rounds kicking off what has been a strong start to the seven round series as part of the Shannons Nationals.
Almost 20 cars have competed in the inaugural season so far through a number of brands Australian consumers buy and drive themselves, including Holden, Audi, Hyundai and Renault.
With thousands of fans expected to attend Albert Park for Australia’s biggest motor sport event next March, Australian Grand Prix Corporation CEO Andrew Westacott was excited to welcome the popular new series as part of the line up.
“There is always such a strong appetite from our fans for on-track activity, so having the exciting racing of a TCR Australia Series round at our event is the perfect fit,” Westacott said.
“AGPC is always looking to inspire the next generation of drivers and being able to showcase a new Australian motor sport category not just nationally, but globally, is such a fantastic opportunity for all involved.”
TCR Australia Promoter Australian Racing Group’s Managing Director Matt Braid was also thrilled to have the category make an appearance on the world stage.
"The Australian Racing Group is extremely pleased to announce our involvement with the Formula 1 Rolex Australian Grand Prix 2020," said Braid.
"The Grand Prix is the largest and most significant international motor sport event held in Australia, and it will be fantastic to showcase the TCR category on the Albert Park circuit as part of the event.
"TCR teams, drivers and manufacturers are all excited by the opportunity to race over the Grand Prix weekend and we look forward to providing some action-packed racing for the fans at the track and the audiences watching event broadcast."
The carsales TCR Australia Series’ inaugural season continues next month at the Shannons Nationals fourth round at Queensland Raceway on 2-4 August, while the Formula 1 Rolex Australian Grand Prix 2020 returns to the Albert Park Grand Prix Circuit from 12-15 March, subject to final FIA approval.
