Jack back in business

Jack Doohan secured three race wins in the Formula 3 Championship over the weekend.
Jack Doohan is closing in on the FIA Formula 3 Asian Championship’s top spot after a clean sweep of victories during the latest round at Sepang International Circuit in Malaysia.

Heading into the championship’s penultimate round 50 points behind current championship leader Joey Alders, Doohan needed nothing but race wins and to give himself a chance of securing a maiden title.

And Doohan did just that - his three-win weekend coming off the back of two pole positions and three brilliant starts, while Alders ended the weekend with two runner-up finishes and an eighth place.

In races one and three, Doohan started in pole and immediately pulled away from the rest of the field within the first lap, comfortably leading the way from start to finish in both races.

The second race was a bit tougher for the 17-year-old, as he started in third place and was neck-and-neck with Alders for much of the opening laps, before overtaking him on the fourth lap and breaking away from the field once again to grab the victory.

;

“It was a great weekend, we came here with a job to do to win all three races and be on pole for most of them,” Doohan said post-event.

“We were able to get everything done that we had to do to close the gap in the Championship.

“Winning the second race was just really good points. This race was really just about getting out front and managing the tyres as the degradation was really high and keeping everyone behind me.”

With only one round remaining in the Championship, Doohan now finds himself just 15 points behind the leading Dutchman and more than 30 points ahead of third placed Nikita Mazepin.

Teams and drivers will have no time to rest between rounds with the FIA Formula 3 Asian Championship’s season finale taking place at the Buriram International Circuit in Thailand on 22-23 February.
