Scott McLaughlin has won the latest round of the BP Supercars All Stars Eseries in a highly entertaining three-way battle at Mount Panorama.

 

It was a dramatic night for Supercars’ reigning champion with McLaughlin constantly in the thick of the action and involved in various clashes throughout the three races.

 

While the Kiwi didn’t manage to finish on the podium in the first two races, his consistency saw him finish inside the top 10 for both, setting up a big showdown in the final race, a double points race, against long-term rival Shane van Gisbergen and Dunlop Super2 Series driver Brodie Kostecki.

 

The action peaked in the dying laps of the third race with less than three tenths separating the trio for the final five laps and it was McLaughlin who was leading Kostecki and race one winner van Gisbergen until the final corner.

 

With all three drivers turning the last corner, the race leader locked brakes, and copped a bump from Kostecki forcing McLaughlin wide, and into a second placed finish as the chequered flag was shown.

 

But the results wouldn’t stand, with a post-race review highlighting the contact made between the two drivers, ultimately handing the win back to McLaughlin and giving him round top honours. 

 

“It was a good battle. I had so much fun,” McLaughlin said post-round.

 

“Brodie was driving fast all weekend and I knew I was going to have my work cut out for me. There were a few dogs on dogs and some bust ups, but at the end of the day, I had fun.”

 

McLaughlin’s teammate Fabian Coulthard also had a successful outing at the virtual Bathurst track with his first win in the series during the round’s reverse grid race - Coulthard finishing ahead of Cam Waters and Will Davison.

 

In the round's opening race, van Gisbergen comfortably led the field from start to finish with Kostecki beating Anton De Pasquale in an entertaining dual for second place, making it two runners-up for the round.

 

“I am glad it was entertaining to watch because it was definitely fun to race, especially against Shane and Scotty,” Kostecki added.

 

“The three of us were wanting a race like this for the round and it was really good to actually get something like that. It was great to be apart of it.”

 

It was a less successful night for the other special guests with Australian international Will Power unable to replicate his NTT Indycar Virtual Series performances, his best result a fifth in the first race over another wildcard entry in Thomas Randle, while former Supercars regular and Eseries wildcard Simona de Silvestro also had a tough day at the office.

 

The next round of the BP Supercars All Stars Eseries will take place again next Wednesday night from 7pm AEST.
