South Australia will hold its second major off road event in as many months this weekend with the Summit Racing Team Car Club running the popular Century Batteries Wynarka Enduro.
More than 40 crews have confirmed their place in the event, which follows on from June’s Ronco Motors Loveday 280, with competitors this weekend tackling 14 laps of the 20km track.
While the event is limited to just South Australians, there are a number of BFGoodrich Motorsport Australia Off Road Championship stars who will be in action.
Headlining the field is 2019 runner-up Roydn Bailey who will be behind the wheel of the same SXS buggy he used last year, while 2018 runner-up Toby Whateley, Tony Whateley and Trophy Truck veteran Hayden Bentleigh will also be challenging for victory – all in their new 2020 vehicles.
Apart from the grand return of racing in the Wynarka area, the event will also host a charitable aspect as well with event organisers donating all attending campers’ $10 fee to the local RSL.
Working hard to get the event in order, the club have put in a number of measures to comply with Motorsport Australia’s Return to Race strategy and Event Secretary Jo-Anne Severin said the organisers were happy to see events back in action.
“It’s nice to get back to racing, especially as it’s only the second race that has happened in SA this year and we have raised more than $2000 for The Lions RSL club,” Severin said.
“A lot more work has been done pre-event, so it means there will be less contact (between participants) and less work to be done over the weekend (thanks to the preparations) which means in some ways, it’s more efficient than previous events.
“There has been a lot of positivity surrounding this event in the lead up with entries reaching capacity in a record time of just two days. It seems they are all hungry to race.
“We also have a very impressive field of cars too with some big names competing and we have a really diversity of classes, which is exciting.”
Competitors will take part in the prologue on Saturday morning before completing six laps on Saturday afternoon and the remaining eight on Sunday.
The Century Batteries Wynarka Enduro takes place in Wynarka on 8-9 August.
