A father-son team have enjoyed a well-deserved one-two finish in the Motorsport Australia Formula Vee NSW State Championship with Aaron Pace winning his maiden title.

Securing the victory during the category’s season finale at Wakefield Park, Aaron beat his father and current Australian champion Simon by 11 points in the standings to move to the top of the pecking order in the Pace family.

It was a highly consistent year from the 24-year-old, who finished every race in the top five and picked up multiple race wins and podiums throughout the five round season.

Claiming his first title after five years in the Championship, Aaron was thrilled to claim bragging rights over his already successful father.

“Coming into the last round I knew that the title was within reach and all I had to do was finish every race,” Aaron said.

“After five years I am over the moon to win my first title but what made the victory even sweeter was that I beat my dad who is the current National Champion.

“I started racing Formula Vees at the age of 19 and before that I had no racing experience at all so this result shows that anyone can get involved in this competitive race category and secure a title if they put their mind to it.”

As for Simon, he was proud his son could claim the state title over himself and fellow contender Craig Sparke, who offered a serious challenge right to the end.

“This year has been challenging for many people and to see Aaron put in such a solid effort and secure the Championship after racing was suspended between March and July is a wonderful result,” Simon added.

“I’m not one for giving up and I was determined to fight for the Championship until the end, but Aaron was just too far in front on points for me and the other competitors to catch him.”

The Paces and the Championship will now enjoy a two month break before returning to Wakefield Park in February for the 2021 season opener as part of the Motorsport Australia New South Wales Motor Race Championships.

With six rounds confirmed for the 2021 season, the Championship will have three meetings at the Goulburn based circuit and three at Sydney Motorsport Park – five of which will take place in consecutive months between April and September.

The first round of the Motorsport Australia Formula Vee NSW State Championship takes place at Wakefield Park on 28-29 February.
