Historic Leyburn Sprints to run in September

Monday 09 August, 2021
The Historic Leyburn Sprints will now take place in September.
The 25th edition of the Historic Leyburn Sprints has been postponed with COVID-19 restrictions making it difficult for organisers to run it in the current climate.

Originally scheduled to take place this month, the event will now be held on 11-12 September to allow competitors and spectators from greater Brisbane to attend.

While the State Government lifted the Brisbane lockdown recently, it has encouraged people from the 11 affected local Government areas to avoid visiting regional areas temporarily.

Sprints President Tricia Chant believed it was important to postpone the award-winning event as people from Brisbane make up a large portion of attendees.

“We are very mindful of running not only a successful event, but also a safe one, and we feel that this is the best solution for all involved,” Chant said.

“We are working as fast as we can to advise our competitors, suppliers, sponsors, supporters and others involved in the Sprints.

“With less than two weeks to go to the original date we were already almost fully prepared and expect the re-scheduled event will offer all the same great features and attractions.”

Celebrating Leyburn’s hosting of the Australian Grand Prix in 1949, the family friendly event will feature non-stop racing action, car displays and appearances from a number of Australian motorsport icons including John Bowe, Dick Johnson and Colin Bond.
