Epic TCM title battle worthy of Bathurst finish
Wednesday 24 November, 2021
The Gulf Western Oils Touring Car Masters is set for a super showdown at Bathurst.
Bathurst will be the home of the Gulf Western Oil Touring Car Masters season finale with 20 muscle and sports cars confirmed in the fourth and final round for the year.
Taking part in the six-day monster Repco Bathurst 1000 as one of multiple support categories, the series will witness an epic end to the season with five drivers in contention for the title and all five competing in the event.
As it stands, five-time TCM champion John Bowe headlines the entry list and will be confident of making it six titles as he is quite the expert at the track – having won the Bathurst 1000 twice.
Just 10 points behind him on the standings is Ryan Hansford, who is his biggest challenger and a proven race winner, while Marcus Zukanovic and Cameron Tilley sit third and fourth equal on points and within reach of the front two.
Rounding out the top five and the last driver who has a genuine chance of snatching the title out of the grasp of his long-term rival is three-time TCM champion Steve Johnson.
Throughout the weekend, there will be three official races and the mixed grid TCM Trophy Race meaning a maximum of 200 points is up for grabs and there is no real certainty as to who can win.
With so many points on offer in the season finale, a further five drivers technically have a chance to win the title but are only a mathematical chance of doing so.
There are a few other names to look out for during the final round with Adam Bressington, race winner Dean Lillie and debutant George Miedecke all having a chance to throw a spanner in the works of the title fight.
The other notable name on show in Bathurst is category legend Brad Tilley, who will make his first start since 2018 and will be going head-to-head with son Jamie for family bragging rights.

All four races of the category will be broadcast live on Fox Sports 506 and on streaming service Kayo Sports, with additional coverage on the Seven Network throughout the event.
