The date for the return of the Motorsport Australia National Awards presented by Shannons Insurance and the Australian Motor Sport Hall of Fame has been set with a special Gala Dinner to take place on Saturday 23 April.

The Motorsport Australia National Awards provides an opportunity to recognise the dedicated volunteer officials and hardworking clubs within the motorsport community, as well as celebrate the national champions of 2021.

Scheduled to take place at the world class Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre (MCEC), this year’s gala dinner will be the first time the awards have been held since the start of 2020, while the last Australian Motor Sport Hall of Fame induction took place in 2019.

Four deserving individuals will be inducted into the Australian Motor Sport Hall of Fame as part of the evening’s celebrations.

Motorsport Australia CEO Eugene Arocca said he was pleased in person events could return to celebrate all aspects of our sport, including the significant contributions of those being inducted into the Hall of Fame.

“It’s been a long time since we were able to honour the country’s best in person, so we’re excited to be able to confirm a date for the awards,” Arocca said.

“Although having the event in April is a bit later than previous years, it will be happening just two weeks after the Formula 1 Heineken Australian Grand Prix which makes for a busy month of motorsport – something we have been missing in the past two years.

“The National Awards, presented by our friends at Shannons Insurance, is a fantastic way to acknowledge the many individuals who contribute to the sport both on and off track, so it’s great that we will be able to do so in a COVID safe way this year.

“Also having four individuals inducted into the Hall of Fame will make the night a huge celebration of our sport.”

Chairman of the Australian Motor Sport Hall of Fame Garry Connelly said the combined event would provide an excellent opportunity to celebrate the contributions of four worthy inductees.

“We look forward to welcoming four new inductees to the Australian Motor Sport Hall of Fame who have contributed so much to the sport we all love,” Connelly said.

“Since its inception in 2016, the Australian Motor Sport Hall of Fame has celebrated and applauded a number of the sport’s greats and we can’t wait to highlight and share the successes of the newest members in April together with the Motorsport Australia National Awards.”

The Motorsport Australia National Awards, presented by Shannons Insurance, and the Australian Motor Sport Hall of Fame induction ceremony will take place in Melbourne on Saturday 23 April at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre (MCEC).

Tickets to the event will be available for purchase on the Motorsport Australia website in early March.
