Wednesday 12 April, 2023
Harri Jones will contest the Porsche Carrera Cup Deutschland.
Harri Jones will run in this year’s Porsche Carrera Cup Deutschland after securing a seat with SCHERER SPORT PHX.

Jones will be one of 10 rookies to be contesting the popular one-make series in Germany, which will see eight rounds make up the season – five of which will be in Germany and the remaining to be held at famous European circuits Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps (Belgium), Circuit Zandvoort (Netherlands) and the Red Bull Ring (Austria).

The deal with SCHERER SPORT PHX will add to Jones’ commitments in the highly esteemed Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup with 12-time champions BWT Lechner Racing.

Having now secured full time seats in the Porsche Carrera Cup Deutschland and the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup Championship, it will be a busy year for the Queenslander with 16 race weekends part of this schedule.

As a result of the busy calendar, the 23-year-old will now live in Europe and was looking forward to what will be a pivotal year in his career.

"For me, it's a very big step to be racing in Europe now,” Jones said.

“It's always been my dream since I started motorsport eight years ago. This is the holy grail of motorsport and for me it's a dream come true.

“My goal is to win the rookie classification and to continue to develop so that I can consistently fight at the front. I don't know any of the circuits yet, and I haven't competed against any European drivers.

“That will certainly be a challenge. But I have confidence in my abilities and the team. We will work very hard to be at the front everywhere, as quickly as possible."

For the Porsche Carrera Cup Deutschland, Jones will be one of two drivers representing the top European outfit with Italian teammate Matteo Ferrer-Aza also in his rookie year.

Ahead of the season, SCHERER SPORT PHX Team Principal Ernst Moser was excited for what Jones and Ferrer-Aza would bring to the table.

"Even though this is the first year of the newly formed SCHERER SPORT PHX team, we can build on the Carrera Cup experience of the proven team from the past two years," Moser said.

"We have two drivers who have never competed in the series before. Therefore, it will be an exciting season. It's a great thrill to compete with such talented rookies."

The Porsche Carrera Cup Deutschland begins its 2023 season at Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps on 27-29 April, while the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup gets underway in Imola on 19-21 May.
