Following a reschedule at the beginning of the season, the first round of the 2023 EZI UP & GO Motorsport Australia Victorian Hillclimb Championship is finally taking place this Sunday.

Hosted by the MG Car Club Victoria, the event will take place at the Rob Roy Hillclimb, with 53 competitors taking on the famous 670-metre climb.

While the most recent round winner, Mirko Grbic and the likes of Glenn Latter, David Harris and Greg Ackland all absent from the entry list, Sunday’s event is still gearing up to be an exciting one, with David Mahon returning after a hiatus in round five.

Mahon, who has mostly dominated the 2023 season, after winning rounds three and four, and a second-place finish in round two, has proven himself to be the one to beat this Sunday.

A familiar face at Rob Roy, Mahon has not only won the event the last two years, but the 2021 and 2022 championships overall, making him a strong, and incredibly consistent contender going into round one.

230706_hillclimb2Joining Mahon this weekend is another strong contender, Patrick Malanaphy, whose two third place finishes and consistent top 10 placings so far this season, put him in good stride for Sunday.

The classes competing at round one will be Racing Cars – including Formula Vee, Formula Ford and Formula Libre – Sports Cars, Sedans, Historic and other, made up of non-championship points scoring cars.

The day will also feature a Come and Try component of the event for a limited number of entrants, separate from the state championship.

Gates will open at 7:00am, with the competition to run from 9:00am to 5:00pm, and entries are still open for drivers wanting to attend.

More information can be found at the Victorian Hillclimb Championship website.

The rescheduled opening round of the 2023 EZI UP & GO Motorsport Australia Victorian Hillclimb Championship takes place at Rob Roy Hillclimb on Sunday 9 July.
