Calder Park calling
Thursday 26 October, 2023
The Victorian State Race Series will conclude its 2023 season this weekend at Calder Park from 9am from 28–29 October.
The 2023 Victorian State Race Series will hold the honour of staging the first Motorsport Australia-sanctioned circuit meeting at Calder Park this weekend after a 15-year absence for the state championship.
In what is the sixth and final round of the 2023 Victorian season, nine categories will take to the historic Victorian venue after recent renovations and improvement works saw Calder Park eligible to regain a Motorsport Australia Track Licence. The track has in recent months welcomed Motorsport Australia speed events.
The likes of Saloon Cars, MGs and Invited, Formula Vee, Series X3 Hyundais and BMW E30s, Porsche 944 Challenge, Formula Vee, Improved Production, and Combined Sedans will make up the field.
Luke Grech-Cumbo and Daniel Timewell look to be the front-runners in Improved Production, with the long straights set to suit their power advantage.
Saloon Cars’ absence from Calder Park extends beyond the Victorian State Race Series’ last visit in 2008, with Keven Stoopman last appearing at Calder Park aboard a HQ Holden. This weekend, Stoopman will be campaigning an AU Falcon.
Combined Sedans will be headlined by a pair of Mercedes-AMG GT4s campaigned by Rob and Bailey Love, closely followed by the MARC II Mustang of William Timms.
Reef McCarthy will be looking to continue his run of form in Formula Vee at Calder Park, with McCarthy the favourite alongside Lee Partridge.
The MGB V8 of Phil Chester will be eager to lead the MGs and Invited after an extended absence, with a variety of powerful and nimble machines making the field.
With plenty of on-track action, spectators will enjoy an affordable weekend with tickets at the gate from $5 per person, or $10 per car. Children aged under 16 will enjoy free entry.
