Racing Together joins Darwin festivities
The award-winning Racing Together program will feature as part of the upcoming Darwin Triple Crown at Hidden Valley this weekend.

The Brisbane-based team will bring seven members to Darwin and take on more local teens racing two Hyundai Excels in the Combined Sedans support category as part of the Repco Supercars Championship event.

Before they hit the track, drivers Karlai Warner and Kade Davey will visit the Clontarf Foundation Academy in Darwin to talk to around 40 students about work opportunities that STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) training can provide, including in motorsport.

Supported by Motorsport Australia since it was first introduced into Australia, Racing Together has become a world-leading program to further grow participation in motorsport.

Garry Connelly AM, who founded Racing Together alongside wife Monique Connelly, said the program’s work with young people at grassroots level has been rewarding.

“Racing Together provides our Indigenous young people with the chance to be part of a focused, motivated group while learning a bunch of skills ranging from working on cars to learning about communications, logistics and management,” Connelly said.

“The Darwin Triple Crown is an iconic, top-level event and the focus on Indigenous culture makes it a natural fit for our team.”

It’s also an incredible opportunity for Racing Together team members according to Warner, a long-time team member and driver.

“Hands-on race-day experience like that is priceless," Warner said.

“It is also an honour to be involved in the Supercars Indigenous Round. We can’t wait to be part of the action and bring plenty of our own.”

The Racing Together visit will be supported by Northern Territory Major Events Company, which is also planning additional activities for Indigenous young people at the Supercars event at Hidden Valley Raceway.
