Racing Together welcomes new talent

Racing Together’s 2026 Open Day at Queensland Raceway delivered strong engagement and a clear pathway for new Aboriginal and Torres Straight Islander talent entering motorsport.

Held in April, the Racing Together Open Day brought together 68 First Nations boys and girls for an eight‑hour, hands‑on motorsport program.

Racing Together Founder Garry Connelly was proud of the day which served as a reminder for why Racing Together exists.

“Our goal has always been simple – to open the door to motorsport for young Indigenous Australians. Days like this show just how much talent and enthusiasm is waiting to be discovered.” Connelly said.

Participants rotated through six activities that included driving assessments with Norwell Motorplex coaches in Toyota 86 vehicles, along with simulator testing, fitness and cognitive evaluations conducted by Focus Driver Performance, plus sessions focused on mechanical skills as well as first aid and nutrition education.

Current and former Racing Together team members supported the day, providing guidance and support to newcomers.

Off the back of a hugely successful day, Racing Together confirmed five new team members:

  • Candice Pinto, 16
  • Malakai Davidson‑Fewquandie, 17
  • Denzal Summers, 14
  • Kruze Summers, 16
  • Brock Lowndes, 15 (Townsville Team)

Racing Together continues to demonstrate how motorsport can be a powerful platform for strengthening community values and the belief that opportunity, mentorship and representation matter.

“This Open Day continues to show the depth of talent among young Indigenous Australians. When given the opportunity, they step forward with confidence and capability,” Connelly said.

“When young Indigenous Australians are welcomed into the sport, the entire motorsport ecosystem benefits.

“Ultimately, the program aims to provide our Indigenous members with the skills necessary to secure a career in motorsport after they leave school.”

By fostering inclusion, teamwork and cultural pride, Racing Together shows that motorsport isn’t just about competition; it’s about building a community that reflects and supports the people it serves.
