As we head into this weekend, there are 33 events taking place across the country, from motorkhanas to hill climbs, come and try days to social events, Round 2 of the EROAD Australian Rally Championship in Western Australia and the Repco Supercars Championship which is underway in Tasmania.
I’m 16 weeks into the job now, and not a week passes where I’m not grateful for the significant work of the Motorsport Australia volunteer community. Motorsport doesn’t happen without the skill and dedication that you bring to the sport.
We are a unique community. Across a nation where sporting volunteerism is in decline, the motorsport volunteer community has seen an increase of 28% over the past five years, with new officials joining the talented and passionate community you are all part of.
The community currently sits at 12,514 members and growing, with many new young officials joining the ranks. In 2025 you worked to deliver 2,844 events across every state and territory and so far in 2026 alone, that number is more than 350.
As National Volunteer Week comes to a close, I want to take a moment to express my heartfelt thanks to every one of you. The impact you make on motorsport across the country is extraordinary.
You give countless hours – not to mention early mornings, long days, challenging conditions – and you do it with unwavering passion for both the sport and the officiating community. Motorsport simply cannot run without you.
Your commitment keeps our competitors safe, our events fair, and our sport fun.
Thank you for continuing to support the sport we all love.
