The 2020 Motorsport Australia Victorian State Circuit Racing Championship season gets underway this weekend with more than 260 cars confirmed to compete at Sandown Raceway.
While the event will be made up of regular categories, the Motorsport Australia GT Trophy Series will also be running over the weekend, adding to the excitement of the state-level championship’s season opener.
From Ferrari 458 GT3s to the Lamborghini Huracan Super Trofeo, an exotic line-up of cars is expected to compete in the national category’s first of 10 rounds this year, which will also be sharing the track alongside the Sports Cars field.
The Hyundai Excel category begins its season with a bang with more than 50 cars confirmed for its season opener, while Improved Production have a full field of 40 cars entered into the event.
There will be around 21 cars forming both the Porsche 944 Challenge and Saloon Cars grid, with the latter hosting the most entries it’s had in recent years as the iconic Ford versus Holden rivalry continues at Sandown.
Another category which will be of interest to most motorsport fans is the MG and Invited British Sportscars and stars Phil Chester, Vince Gucciardo and Robin Bailey have confirmed their entry for the weekend.
Rounding out the Victorian bill will be a host of other regulars with Formula Ford, Formula Vee, Holden HQs and BMW E30 all on show throughout the round.
In what will be an added bonus for fans planning to attend the state championship’s first meeting for the year, the Red Hill viewing area will also be open to the public on Sunday, with all proceeds going to a Bushfire Relief fund.
Tickets to the event can be purchased at the gate and include access to the Grandstand and the pits, allowing fans to enjoy the weekend’s action packed 45 races from great vantage points, as well as getting close to the cars and drivers themselves.
