The upcoming Phillip Island Classic ‘Festival of Motorsport’ is expected to be home to the largest ever gathering of Bathurst winners as the Victorian Historic Racing Register (VHRR) celebrates 30 years.
Taking place over Victoria’s Labour Day weekend, 12 legends of Australia’s famous international endurance race will be at the iconic circuit to be part of the historic motor racing event.
Headlining the list of those attending the event will be three time Bathurst winner Dick Johnson, to be joined by fellow Australian motor sport icons Allan Moffatt, John Bowe, Kevin Bartlett, John French, Fred Gibson, John Harvey, Bob Morris, Larry Perkins, Dave Reynolds, Jim Richards and Brian Sampson.
Fans will be able to get up and close and personal with the Bathurst royalty, who have a collective of 27 Bathurst races total, for signing sessions on Saturday and Sunday.
The former Kings of the Mountain won’t be the only superstars attending the event, with Gold Star winner Alfie Costanzo and Channel 10’s Supercars commentator Aaron Noonan also expected to be at the Circuit.
The Festival will also see six females racing including Rhea Sautter from Germany, the winner of the 2018 Belgium’s Circuit de-Spa-Francorchamps six-hour race.
Outside of the big names to feature across the weekend, there will be a host of international renowned vehicles on show including thee 1964 Silverstone winning ex-Salvadori Cooper-Maserati T61P, Joe Calleja’s 331 ci V8 Cadillac driven by Bowe and Peter Sturgeon’s 1985 Australian Touring Car Championship winning JPS BMW 635 coupe, driven by Richards.

While the event will be commemorating the VHRR’s 30th anniversary, it will mark the 50th anniversaries of the Holden Dealer Team and Formula Ford in Australia.
To celebrate the Holden Dealer team’s golden jubilee, the event will host the largest ever assembly of Holden Dealer Team cars at one time on display for motor sport enthusiasts to enjoy.
In readiness of next week’s Formula 1 Rolex Australian Grand Prix 2019, CAMS would like to encourage all officials to get down to the circuit and be part of the action by helping out.
With so many icons to be in the one place and more than 440 historic cars entered across 32 categories, organisers are also on the hunt for more officials to assist and get a unique look at the event.

For spectators wanting to attend the three-day event, organisers will offer a weekend pass for $95, or individual day tickets can also be purchased. Pensioners will receive a $5 discount on tickets.
The Phillip Island Classic Festival of Motorsport 2019 will take place at the Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit on 8-10 March.
