Wood claims point in historic W Series debut

The W-Series has begun and Jamie Chadwick took out the first race of the year.
Australian Caitlin Wood has secured a well-deserved point in the inaugural W-Series race overnight as British driver Jamie Chadwick dominated the weekend to claim a historic victory.

Starting the race in pole position, Chadwick made a brilliant start to lead the field for the opening laps before she ran wide on a Hairpin and gave up top spot to Sarah Moore.

A safety car on lap five brought Chadwick back into the mix and she took advantage of her lifeline, passing Moore not long after the restart, claiming back the lead which she did not relinquish for the remainder of the race.

Finishing behind Chadwick was compatriot Alice Powell, who impressively worked her way up from sixth, while the youngest driver in the field Marta Garcia of Spain rounded out the podium. Moore eventually finished the race in fifth behind Dutch driver
Beitske Visser.

As for Wood, the 22-year-old began the race in 12th and managed to gain a few places throughout the race before a lock up on turn 8 saw her drop back down the field to 11th.

The New South Wales-born driver was able to make up one position by the end of the race to sneak into the top 10 and grab a handy point in the season opener.

The next round of the W-Series takes place at Circuit Zolder in Belgium on 17-18 May.
