Young gun Will Brown will add yet another premier racing category to his growing resume, joining ex-Formula 1 ace Rubens Barrichello as a confirmed starter in the S5000 Series.

It will be a busy weekend for Brown, who will also pilot his Hyundai i30 in the carsales TCR Australia Series at Sandown.

Tickets for the Shannons Nationals at Sandown are on sale now, with 10 per cent of all ticket sales going to charity Very Special Kids.

Brown has plenty of open-wheel experience in his blood, having starred in the CAMS PAYCE Australian Formula 4 Championship as its champion in 2016 as well as stints in Formula Ford.

“It’s such a thrill to be confirmed to start in the first-ever S5000 race at Sandown,” Brown said.

“I’ve been watching these cars doing demonstrations at the TCR events this year and I’ve been hanging off the fence, keen to have a drive.”

“They sound awesome, they look great and they are so fast. These cars are going to be amazing at Sandown and we are going to be doing our best to be at the front of the field and enjoy the experience.”

Brown has certainly had a busy year in 2019 – on top of his TCR duties, where he is currently the Series leader, Brown also competes in the Dunlop Super2 Series as well as preparing for his upcoming drive as Anton De Pasquale’s co-driver in the Virgin Australia Supercars Championship’s Pirtek Endurance Cup races.

The move into S5000 will be done with some familiar faces surrounding the 21-year-old, with Eggleston Motorsport confirming their involvement in Australia’s newest open-wheel category.

“I couldn’t think of doing it with any other team than Eggleston Motorsport,” Brown added.

“They have looked after me really well in the Super2 Series, so the good thing is I don’t need to learn the people, all I need to do is learn the car.”

Team owner Rachel Eggleston said the move into S5000 was a logical one for the team.

“We are really excited to be involved in the inaugural round of the S5000 Series at Sandown and even better that we get to make our debut with Will who is a big part of our EMS family,” Eggleston said.

“Will has a lot of experience in open-wheelers and has proven he can pretty much drive any type of car so we are hopeful of a strong result.

“It looks like there is going to be some seriously good steerers at the opening round so we are under no illusions the competition will be fierce – but we really look forward to a new challenge.”

S5000 will join a host of exciting categories at Sandown on 20-22 September, with the CAMS Australian GT Championship, MRF Australian Production Cars, Kumho Tyre Super 3 Series and the Porsche Michelin GT3 Cup also part of the jam-packed racing line up.

Tickets are now on sale to the historic event and can be purchased here, with 10 per cent of all ticket sales going to charity Very Special Kids.

A schedule for the sixth round of the Shannons Nationals at Sandown is expected to be available soon, along with the confirmation of the S5000 race formats.
