Baldwin best in Barrier khanacross

Brett Baldwin has now won the past two Barrier Sporting Car Club khanacrosses.
Barrier Sporting Car Club President Brett Baldwin has continued his golden run of form in the club’s khanacross series after winning the second meeting for the year.
With around six months separating the two events, Baldwin picked up right where he left off earlier this year with a highly consistent performance, beating his father Mick to top spot.
While he was faster for much of the day, it was no easy feat for Brett as a flat tyre on the second test saw both drivers equal at the halfway mark, before the round one winner posted faster times in the final two tests to claim an 11 second victory.
Finishing in third place a further 16 seconds behind Mick was the club’s teenage sensation in Lachy Turley with the 16-year-old having actually recorded the fastest times on tests one, three and four – as well as being the only driver to go sub two minutes in any test.
However like Brett, the second stage proved to be the difference as he ended it more than 30 seconds slower than both Baldwins, making it extremely difficult to come back.
In fourth place just two seconds behind Turley was Sam Docking, while another Baldwin in Bec rounded out the top five and secured the 2WD class win.
Following on from Brett’s victory, the regular AGI Really of the Heartland competitor was thrilled with the event and credited Turley for a strong showing.
“It was a beautiful day, the event went great and everyone was well behaved,” Brett said.
“It was a nice and close battle with Lachlan Turley who was right up with us in that Can-Am. Great to see a junior doing well, but he had a bit of trouble with his car which put him off a bit.
“It’s great that it came down to the wire and they had me a bit worried, but it was all good in the end. Had to pull the rabbit out of the hat, which was nice.
“We’re hopefully going to run a few more khanacrosses over the next few months and we’re really looking forward to the next one.”
