It was a weekend of dominance at the NTI Townsville 500, with Shane van Gisbergen and teammate Jamie Whincup in a class of their own at the most recent Repco Supercars Championship round.
van Gisbergen now comfortably leads the Championship and is in scintillating form.
Outside of the Red Bull Holden Race Team duo, the sixth round for the year did prove productive for both Shell V Power Race Team entries as Will Davison replaced Chaz Mostert in the championship's top three and Anton De Pasquale jumped up to sixth courtesy of two podiums.
Townsville again hosts the second consecutive weekend of racing, with the WD-40 Townsville Supersprint which could be a game changer.
With this round serving up three sprint races, each team will have to look at a completely new strategy.
In the previous three rounds before Townsville week one where they were three-race formats, five different drivers were winners across the nine races with van Gisbergen and Mostert picking up two each and Whincup, De Pasquale and Cam Waters with one apiece.
A similar story occurred last year too as no driver won every race over the course of a double-header weekend at the same circuit.
That trend is likely to continue this weekend, however van Gisbergen has still shown that he can dominate the field no matter the circumstances in 2021, having won three from three at Sandown earlier this year.
Supercars won’t be the only category taking centre stage this weekend with the combined Dunlop Super2/Dunlop Super3 series returning for back-to-back race weekends and the Townsville Tin Tops giving fans plenty of entertainment.
The WD-40 Townsville Supersprint takes place around Reid Park on 17-18 July.
