The second round of the Motorsport Australia SA Motor Racing Championships has seen The Bend Motorsport Park host a jam packed weekend of racing. 

More than 110 entries across 12 categories featured in the event with five grids getting five races around the shorter circuit at the world class facility. 

Boasting the largest field of the day with 41 cars was the Hyundai Excels and unlike previous rounds, it was an even playing field as there were four different winners throughout the weekend. 

Taking out two of his own after qualifying on pole was category champion in Asher Johnson – the Hofbrau Original Racing Team driver winning both the first and fourth outing of the day. 

Johnson was only able to pick up one more podium throughout the race meeting as a number of other drivers produced impressive wins including Bradley Vaughan, Brad Gartner and Victorian Joel Johnson. 


However, it was Vaughan who ended the weekend on top having added three podiums and a P5 – the only driver to do so. 

It was a similar story in the Sports Sedans/Sports Cars class with four drivers enjoying race victories. 

Taking out top honours first up was Sports Sedan driver Joshua Pickert in his Holden Monaro, however from then on it was all dominance from the Sports Cars. 

McLaren GT4 driver Mark Pearce picked up wins in the next two races, while Ian Wilson and Anthony Giustozzi won the remaining two. 


Fresh from his Michelin Le Mans Cup podium at Imola earlier this month, Garnet Patterson enjoyed a welcome return to his hometown with a clean sweep of wins in the Historic Racing/Formula Vee field. 

Behind the wheel of a Radical SR10, Patterson eased his way to five outright wins for the weekend, while Andrew Ford was victorious in four races for the Historic Racing class. In the Formula Vee class, Daniel Westcott and Adam Newton shared two wins apiece. 

Only one other category saw a clean sweep take place over the weekend and it was Scott Cook in the Improved Productions who had the honour, steering his Nissan Silvia S13 to five straight wins. 

Finishing every race behind him was another Nissan Silvia S13 driver in Grant Maitland. 


In the combined Saloon Cars and HQ Holdens grid, Scott Dornan steered his Commodore VY to two both outright wins on Saturday, before the arrival of Shawn Jamieson saw him claim all three wins on Sunday. 

In HQ Holdens part of the field, Darryl Crouch came ever so close to a perfect weekend with four wins, while Darren Jenkins was the only other victor. 

The next round of the Motorsport Australia SA Motor Racing Championships will be at Mallala Raceway on 9 July.
