Will Power has moved to within one point of the NTT IndyCar Series lead after a solid weekend at the Children’s of Alabama Indy Grand Prix where he finished in second place.
Throughout the whole weekend at Barber Motorsports Park in Alabama, Power was producing plenty of pace and delivered when it mattered – qualifying on the front row before securing the podium.
In what was a mighty effort from the Queenslander, Power overcame plenty of adversity in the event to after undergoing an engine change after the morning warm up session, to cross the line just over one second behind three-time Supercars champion, Scott McLaughlin.
The two Team Penske teammates were in fine form throughout the 90-lap race, which included the duo defending strong at the end of a late safety car restart with two laps to go.
The series continues next month with the Sonsio Grand Prix at the famous Indianapolis Motor Speedway Road Course on 11 May.
Across the Atlantic Ocean, a number of rising stars were in action in the United Kingdom, with the GB3 and GB4 held at Silverstone Circuit and the ROKiT F4 British Championship kicking off its 2024 season at Donington Park.
Enjoying the best run of the lot was Alex Ninovic in Formula 4, who ended the weekend with a podium, top five finish and a pole position for the third and final race – however poor weather conditions saw the race cancelled.
Starting off with a podium in race one, Ninovic started the reverse grid race from P12 and made up seven positions throughout race to finish in fifth place.
Following on from the weekend, the 17-year-old currently sits in third place on the standings ahead of the next round at Brands Hatch on 11-12 May.
At the famous Silverstone Circuit, Patrick Heuzenroeder and James Wharton were in action in GB3, with both drivers experiencing contrasting weekends during the two races.
In the opening race of the round, it was Heuzenroeder who led the way by finishing P11 to Wharton’s P20. While Heuzenroeder managed to make up one position having qualified 12th, Wharton lost five places in the eight lap outing.
The roles were reversed in the second race as Wharton made up plenty of places to finish 11th, while Heuzenroeder crossed the finish line four places below in P15.
Despite no top 10 finishes, Heuzenroeder banked solid points to end the weekend in 11th place.
The Championship continues will venture outside of England for the next round, with Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps to host the round on 1-2 June.
In GB4, Jack Taylor picked up similar results to his series debut from earlier this month, which began with a 10th place finish before dropping to 12th in the second race. It what ended up a disappointing result for him – Taylor made up multiple positions but some mistakes saw him fall back down to where he started.
The next round of the Championship will be at Donington Park on 25-26 May.
