For commercial promoters, an event liability and professional indemnity policy should be strongly considered, if not an essential purchase for your business.
Many commercial events include activities that fall outside the scope of Motorsport Australia’s insurance program.
These can include attractions such as fairground rides, live concerts, gala dinners, motorcycle demonstrations and fireworks displays.
These activities are excluded because they either present higher levels of risk, involve significant public attendance, or require specialist risk management procedures that are beyond the scope of Motorsport Australia’s insurance framework.
The affordability of Motorsport Australia’s insurance program is also closely linked to the sport’s claims history.
Significant claims arising from non-motorsport commercial activities could increase the cost of insurance for the wider motorsport community, making it important that these risks are insured separately.
For larger events, promoters should also consider additional forms of insurance depending on the nature of their event, including:
- Voluntary Workers Insurance – Provides cover for volunteers engaged directly by the promoter, rather than volunteers acting on behalf of Motorsport Australia or an affiliated club.
- Statutory Liability Insurance – Covers legal costs associated with investigations by regulatory authorities, such as WorkSafe, following an incident.
- Event Cancellation Insurance – Protects against financial losses if an event must be cancelled due to circumstances such as severe weather, fire or other unforeseen incidents.
- Hired Property Insurance – Covers damage to hired equipment, helping avoid expensive repair costs or damage waiver charges.
