More than 200 drivers across nine categories have taken part in the second round of the CAMS NSW Motor Race Championship at Sydney Motorsport Park. 

Headlining the two-day event was the Improved Production Cars with an impressive entry list. Trevan Spiteri led the category with two race wins.  

Finishing a close second behind Spiteri was Michael King who ended the weekend with one win and two runner-up finishes, while Graeme Watts rounded out the podium after a tight battle with Peter Ingram. 

Ahead of the inaugural TCR Australia season to kick off at Sydney Motorsport Park in May, Jimmy Vernon continued his perfect preparation for the series with a round victory in the Production Touring Cars.  

It was a Mitsubishi one-two as Vernon picked up two wins to finish ahead of Evo 8 pilot Matthew Holt and Michael King in the HSV Clubsport, whose runner-up in the final race secured his podium finish.  

The Supersport category started off the weekend’s races and were done and dusted by the first day of the event with Neale Muston’s second place finish in the first race enough to earn a tight round win over Darren Barlow. 

The battle for third involved up to six cars, but due to a number of DNFs throughout the weekend to five of these drivers, Mark Lauke’s consistency was rewarded with third place honours after he finished the weekend with two third place finishes.

There were three separate winners in Formula Vee as Craig Sparke sealed outright first ahead of Jason Cutts and Aaron Lee thanks to his pair of runner-up finishes. 

Despite Lee finishing the last race on top, he finished behind both Cutts and and Sparke in the opening two races, allowing Cutts to place ahead of him in the outright point score. 

It was another close finish in the HQ Holdens as a victories to Chris Molle either side of Brett Osborn’s race win gave Molle bragging rights and outright top honours in the category.     

Osborn’s win in the second race was enough to secure a comfortable second place as Duane Cambridge and David Proglio shared the podium’s final step after both picked up a third place throughout the weekend. 

Australian Sports Sedan legend Tony Ricciardello made the trip over from Western Australia to take part in the Sports Sedans and showed no signs of fatigue, claiming a clean sweep of the category.

The round had drawn some of the biggest names around the country for the category as 2018 national champion Steve Tamasi finished second behind Ricciardello. Another national series regular in Steven Lacey also had a solid weekend, finishing third outright.

Ricciardello wasn’t the only driver to claim a clean sweep throughout the weekend, with Graeme Holmes a cut above the rest in the Formula Cars. 

Holmes was too strong for his rivals as Aaron McClintock sealed second and Ron Coath improved with every race, taking out the final spot on the podium. 

Nothing could separate Lee Baller and Aaron Cogger in the Superkarts as the pair both finished with one win, two runner-ups and a third place to share top honours. 

Despite finishing in the top three only once, Mark Robin ended the round in third place thanks to a number of DNFs of other competitors including Tony Moit who finished the weekend with two race wins.

Zac Soutar was on track for a Formula Ford round victory thanks to a race win and second place, but struggled in the last race to cross the line in the bottom 10 and finish the weekend in third outright. 

The round’s top honours went to Thomas Sargent who ended the weekend with two runner-ups and a race win, while Callum Hedge finished in second outright after finishing on the podium in every race. 

The next round of the CAMS NSW Motor Race Championship takes place on 25-26 May.
