It was all about the bump and grind on the final day of Round 2 of the Shannons Nationals at Phillip Island as drivers jostled for their final position.

Carsales TCR Australia Series

It was a wild two races for TCR drivers today. Andre Heimgartner (Subaru WRX) and Garth Tander (Audi RS) tangled while Heimgartner was trying to avoid a spinning James Moffat (Renault Megane) in the first race of the day. The two Honda Civic Type Rs of Tony D’Alberto and John Martin were sidelined to the pits due to punctures.

Dylan O’Keeffe remained largely unaware of the carnage happening behind him and crossed the finish line in the Alfa Romeo Giulietta six seconds clear of the nearest contender, Will Brown in the Hyundai i30N. Hamish Ribaritis was third in the Audi RS.

It wasn’t long after the first race that the TCR cars were again lined up to go again. Once again there were some winners and losers out of the first lap jostle for position. Will Brown managed to come out clean and stayed that way until the chequered flag fell. O’Keeffe, Alexandra Whitley (VW Golf) and John Martin (Honda Type R) weren’t quite as lucky as they tangled. It was a Hyundai one, two with Will Brown’s team mate Nathan Morcom claiming second. It was Aaron Cameron in the VW Golf who would round out the podium in third.

CAMS Australian Endurance Championship

Geoff Emery and Garth Tander were the big winners of the CAMS Australian Endurance Championship. The pairing worked their way up from third in the Audi R8, to cross the finish line 22 hundredths of a second in front of Fraser Ross and Ryan Simpson in the McLaren 720S. The final place of the podium went to Max Twigg and Tony D’Alberto in the Mercedes AMG.

Porsche Michelin GT3 Cup Challenge

Aaron Love backed up yesterday’s race win with another today, clinching the overall Round 3 winner title. Love managed to put distance between himself and Harri Jones and Max Vidau who were battling for second. Love crossed the finish line three seconds ahead of Jones, with Vidau rounding out the Race 3 podium.

Brett Boulton won the TAG Heuer Pro-Am in race three, while Shane Barwood won a highly competitive round in the Pro-Am class. Andrew Goldie swept all three races to win Class B.

CAMS PAYCE Formula 4 Championship

It was a clear run for Luis Leeds, who had the lead well in his control during the last race of Round 4. Lachlan Hughes started in second, but yielded his position to Antonio Astuti on lap 6 of the 12 lap race. Astuti crossed the finish line 7.4 seconds behind Leeds. Hughes would finish in third.

The Shannons Nationals will now head to The Bend Motorsport Park in South Australia for Round 3 on July 12-14.
