Queenslanders wanting to take part in next month’s Motorsport Australia Queensland Hill Climb Championship have just one more week to enter the event.
With entries to state championship closing on 5 August and the field almost at full capacity, event organisers are encouraging interested competitors to enter as soon as possible.
Taking place at the popular Mount Cotton hill climb track, the event will run on 14-15 August, with practice on the Saturday and the official action to run on the Sunday.
It will be the MG Car Club of Queensland’s second event at the hill climb track since COVID-19 restrictions were eased in the state, with the club having run a test and tune day earlier this month.
Despite a smaller turnout compared to the it's usual hill climbs, club President Richard Mattea believed it was an important event to get right as it set the standard for its next major events over the coming months, including next month’s state hill climb championship.
“Running the test and tune hill climb last week was certainly a good way to ensure we had a good COVID-19 plan in place,” Mattea said.
“We have run many hill climbs over the years but this was one was more challenging as we needed to make sure everyone was complying with the safety measures we put it place.
“The event went quite smoothly and we had no issues because we had a great plan thanks to Motorsport Australia’s Return to Race document.
“We have 56 entries for next month’s hill climb so far and we’re expecting around 70 all up. Each driver will get five runs and have an opportunity for practice on the Saturday, as well as having the option for a private practice on the Friday.”
