Taylor to venture into Rallycross with #YellowSquad

Wednesday 02 August, 2023
2016 ARC Champion Molly Taylor will contest the RX2e Championship.
Molly Taylor will return to the rally scene after signing with #YellowSquad for a maiden RX2e Championship run.

With the backing of Veloce Racing’s Extreme E partner E.ON, the Victorian-based driver will represent the team in two rounds as part of a support series for the FIA World Rallycross Championship in August.

Alongside full-time #YellowSquad driver Isak Sjökvist, Taylor will make her first appearance this weekend at Mette in Belgium before the Extreme E Championship winner will again feature in just under three weeks' time in the championship showdown at Estering in Germany.

Joining arguably the most successful team in Rallycross history, the 2016 Bosch Motorsport Australian Rally Championship (ARC) winner widens her involvement in the Hansen Motorsport structure as she continues to take advantage of the benefits and learning opportunities that come with working within a team with such impressive history.

While this will be a new venture for Taylor, she looks forward to the challenge.

“I’m really excited to join RX2e for these two events. It’s an incredible opportunity and I’m very grateful to E.ON and to Veloce Racing for making this possible,” Taylor said.

“Rallycross is something completely new to me, so I’m looking forward to taking on this challenge, learning and developing as quickly as possible.

“Running with #YellowSquad, I know I have the right people around me and can’t wait to get started.”

Taylor will look to continue the impressive legacy of females within the team, with fellow Extreme E driver Catie Munnings already having raced with #YellowSquad on three occasions this year – while the team also supported Susann Hansen in becoming the only female to ever win the European Rallycross Championship back in 1994.

"We’re delighted to have Molly racing in the FIA RX2e championship with the Hansen’s junior team, and we’re excited to see what she can achieve at these next two events,” Daniel Bailey, CEO and Co-Founder of Veloce Racing said.

“It is a great opportunity for her to get wider experience in electric racing under the guidance of such a knowledgeable team, and we also have our partners E.ON to thank for helping to make this a reality.”

Scott Somerville, Chief Marketing Officer for E.ON UK, echoed Bailey in welcoming Taylor to the team.

“We’re big fans of Molly and Kevin from our time together in Extreme E and it’s great our existing relationship supports the further development of sustainable motorsport,” Somerville said.

“Our work with Veloce focuses on the twin goals of promoting greater diversity in sport and inspiring people to help in tackling the climate crisis and we couldn’t have better ambassadors in delivering that message to a wider audience.”

After getting behind the wheel of the single specification, 270kW, four wheel drive all-electric RX2e machine for the first time this week, Taylor will introduce herself to the world of rallycross this weekend in Belgium on 5-7 August.
