The 2018 BFGoodrich CAMS Australian Off Road season has given fans plenty to remember after what was a sensational year of off road racing. 

After three rounds of intense battles, the arrival of new drivers and the continued brilliance of some of the sport’s great drivers, 2018 was definitely one to remember.

SXS Turbo takes historic outright section win at St George 399

The 2018 BFGoodrich Australian Off Road Championship started with a huge shake-up as young gun Toby Whateley shot out of the blocks at round one to take an early lead. 

Against the odds, the South Australian won the first leg of the St George 399, making history as the first SXS Turbo to take an outright section win at the national event. 

Although he was unable to hold off a hard-charging Shannon Rentsch on the second and final day, his section win set the scene for a hugely competitive year for the SXS Turbo class.

Declan Cummins amazing save on the Baker's Dozen at St George 399

In the 2018 BFGoodrich CAMS Australian Off Road Championship’s opening day, Declan Cummins was going well in prologue as he attempted to record a solid time.

When the Super 1650 pilot reached the end of the newly improved Baker’s Dozen, he endured the most spectacular near miss of the season, almost flipping the buggy as the car flew through the air on its side.

Fortunately, the driver managed to pull off a miraculous save, land on all four wheels and continue the prologue like nothing had happened.

Toby Price makes second Finke Double attempt

Toby Price attempted the ‘Iron Man’ Finke Double in 2016, his goal to win both the bikes and cars during the same event, and in 2018 he lined up for a second shot at the double.  

Price’s 2018 attempt started well, prologuing first in the bikes and fourth in the cars before ending day one holding onto his lead in the bikes and moving to second in the car field. 

While Price continues to excel in the bikes, claiming a sixth ‘King of the Desert Title’, his Trophy Truck suffered a power steering pump failure on the way back to Alice Springs, thus ending his second attempt at the Iron Man double.

Ninth Off Road title for Shannon and Ian Rentsch

Shannon and Ian Rentsch completed a near perfect season in 2018, winning all three rounds of the BFGoodrich CAMS Australian Off Road Championship to be crowned the 2018 Champions for the ninth time. 

After a slow start at St George, which saw the father-son team end the first section in fourth, the pair eventually climbed their way to the front of the field and never looked back.

A round win in Queensland, before a clean sweep of Finke set up their final round charge in Victoria, where the #33 pro buggy finished the event first and as national champions.
