The CAMS State Awards, presented by Burson Auto Parts, headed to Queensland on Friday, as the state the hard work and dedication of individuals and teams in  throughout 2018.

In front of a full house at the Easts Leagues Club, the who’s who of Queensland were in attendance the championship and series winners were announced.

Headlining the list of individual accolades was BFGoodrich CAMS Australian Off Road Championship veteran Geoff Pickering, who was inducted into the Hall of Fame.

Since making his Off Road debut in the 1989 Australian Safari, Pickering numbers have been staggering, with 14 Finke Desert Races and 13 Australian class titles, the highlights of his long and illustrious career. 

One of the most significant gongs for the evening went to 2018 Castrol State Official of the Year winner Athol Wilcox, his professionalism and can-do attitude, a major contributor to his award.

Wilcox has dedicated many years of his life to all disciplines of including circuit, rally and , as the Gympie local headed to all parts of Queensland to offer his services in Event Command, Scrutineering other mentoring activities.

Another key award winner was Bradley Tubb who took home the Ann Thomson Trophy for showing an outstanding contribution to within the state over an extended period of time.

For the up and coming talent, it was Megan Benson who was crowned with the prestigious Burson Future Star award, while William Brown was awarded the Will Power Trophy for his outstanding achievements throughout 2018.

The final individual awards for the night were the Service Awards, with Brisbane Sporting Car Club administration officer and CAMS course presenter Margaret Mackay claiming the CAMS Service Star award.

For the past 27 years, Mackay has been a dedicated volunteer who has filled senior roles at international and national rallies within Queensland and Tasmania, making her a worthy recipient of the CAMS Service Star.

The other CAMS Service Awards went to Bill Crouch, Shaun , David Jamieson, Margot Knowles, Robert McLean for their contributions to Queensland in 2018 and beyond.

The Ipswich West Moreton Auto Club were the other big winners for the evening, taking home the Outstanding Club Award thanks to its work introducing more than 30 juniors into the sport, as well as almost half of these competing at various race meetings.
