cams.com.au take a look at some events on the agenda this week, from state and national level through to grassroots motor sport.
Penrite Oil Sandown 500
When: 8-10 November
Where: Sandown International Raceway
The Virgin Australia Supercars Championship heads to one of Australia’s most famous tracks for the penultimate round of what has been an entertaining season.
Current leader Scott McLaughlin has the chance to seal the title this weekend, while Pirtek Enduro Cup leader Shane van Gisbergen needs a minor miracle to stay in the title race.
It’s the final time Sandown will be hosting an endurance round and the support categories, including Dunlop Super2 Series and CAMS Australian GT Championship will also be putting on a show as they reach the pointy end of their seasons.
Targa High Country 2019
When: 7-10 November
Where: Mansfield, Mt. Buller
The season finale of the CAMS Australian Targa Championship has arrived as Paul Stokell remains in a good position to go back-to-back in the Championship.
Up to 195 crews will do battle around Mansfield, Mount Buller and the surrounding areas with some picturesque towns with panoramic views also part of the course, although a potential storm and recent snow will certainly make the final round interesting.
Starting from Friday, the crews will complete stages around Lake Eildon, before moving to Mansfield and Whitefield, before the final day sees them back in Eildon – with every night finishing at Mount Buller.
Trident Tyre Centre Legend of the Lakes Hillclimb
When: 8-10 November
Where: Mount Gambier
One of the premier hill climb events in the country, the Legends of the Lakes Hillclimb returns for another year as Dan Day looks to retain the title he won last year.
There is a lot happening on both the track and off it too with the legendary Jim Richards on hand as the event’s special guest while the Thursday evening launch party features a number of popular local bands.
The official racing gets underway on Saturday with drivers each getting three runs before Sunday’s competition starts at 9am and ends at 3:30pm local time – making it a weekend full of entertainment.
Friday is free entry for all spectators, while fans can get access on each day of the week for $10 or $15 for a weekend pass.
